BATS (Basic Analysis of Taut Structures) is a project developed as the result of the PhD of Dr. Eng. Márcio Sartorelli, supervised by Prof. Dr. Ruy Pauletti at GISE (Grupo de Inovação em Sistemas Estruturais - Group of Inovation on Structural Systems), hosted at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo.

BATS provides components for taut structures design and analysis. Currently all features of BATS are included, the current version will start to be in trial version in 1st July 2025, and some components will not work anymore. Until there I will decide on the licensing options for the tool, as well as fix bugs you may find along the way. For bug reporting, send me an email directly.

The features includes:

• Form-finding of membrane surfaces
• Patterning logic
• Flattening of the fabric strips (limited on trial version)
• Geometrically non-linear structural analysis
  • truss, cable, membrane and beam elements.
  • membranes contains a  simplified wrinkling model.
  • two solvers: newton-raphson and dynamic relaxation (more stable).
• Post process of results (limited in trial version)

Eigen C++ library is used for linear algebra calculations (http://eigen.tuxfamily.org).
